Abstract

ISSTA-2002, the International Symposium on Software Testing and Analysis, is the twelfth in a series of meetings that has raised awareness in the software engineering community of the crucial role of testing and analysis in software development. ISSTA brings together academics, industrial researchers, and practitioners to exchange new ideas, share experiences, and solve problems. Although ISSTA has always drawn international participation, ISSTA-2002 strengthens the ties between researchers and practitioners from around the globe by moving outside of North America for the first time. The ISSTA-2002 program features research papers, invited speakers, a panel discussion on the relevance of ISSTA research to industry, and a joint session with the co-located Workshop on Software Performance (WOSP). Ninety-seven papers were submitted to ISSTA-2002. They underwent a rigorous review process, with at least three Program Committee members reviewing each paper and with thorough discussion of the reviews. Some papers were reviewed by four or five Program Committee members and/or outside reviewers. The Program Committee selected eighteen of the papers as regular papers. The authors of eight additional papers were asked to recast their papers as short papers. The keynote address by Aldo Borrione provides insight into the software quality issues facing the automotive industry. The joint morning with WOSP features an invited talk by Prof. Ed Brinksma on integrating qualitative and quantitative validation of software systems, along with ISSTA and WOSP research paper sessions.
