Über dieses Buch

This book contains the most important formulas and more than 190 completely solved problems from Kinetics and Hydrodynamics. It provides engineering students material to improve their skills and helps to gain experience in solving engineering problems. Particular emphasis is placed on finding the solution path and formulating the basic equations. Topics include:
- Kinematics of a Point
- Kinetics of a Point Mass
- Dynamics of a System of Point Masses
- Kinematics of Rigid Bodies
- Kinetics of Rigid Bodies
- Impact
- Vibrations
- Non-Inertial Reference Frames
- Hydrodynamics

Frontmatter
Chapter 1. Kinematics of a Point
Abstract
The position of a point P in space is described by the position vector.
Dietmar Gross, Wolfgang Ehlers, Peter Wriggers, Jörg Schröder, Ralf Müller
Chapter 2. Kinetics of a Point Mass
Abstract
NEWTON’s 2nd Law (law of motion): The motion of a point mass under the action of forces.
Dietmar Gross, Wolfgang Ehlers, Peter Wriggers, Jörg Schröder, Ralf Müller
Chapter 3. Dynamics of a System of Point Masses
Abstract
System of Point Masses: The mass m i is subject to the external force F i and the internal forces F ij  = −F ji . If the distances r ij between the masses remain constant, the system of point masses is rigid.
Dietmar Gross, Wolfgang Ehlers, Peter Wriggers, Jörg Schröder, Ralf Müller
Chapter 4. Kinematics of Rigid Bodies
Abstract
The Motion of a Rigid Body can be composed of a Translation and a Rotation.
Dietmar Gross, Wolfgang Ehlers, Peter Wriggers, Jörg Schröder, Ralf Müller
Chapter 5. Kinetics of a Rigid Body
Abstract
Spatial Motion: The motion of a rigid body is described by the Principle of Linear Momentum and the Principle of Angular Momentum.
Dietmar Gross, Wolfgang Ehlers, Peter Wriggers, Jörg Schröder, Ralf Müller
Chapter 6. Impact
Abstract
Impact: A sudden collision of two bodies leading to a sudden change of their motion is called Impact.
Dietmar Gross, Wolfgang Ehlers, Peter Wriggers, Jörg Schröder, Ralf Müller
Chapter 7. Vibrations
Abstract
The following formulas and problems are restricted to vibrations of linear systems with one degree of freedom.
Dietmar Gross, Wolfgang Ehlers, Peter Wriggers, Jörg Schröder, Ralf Müller
Chapter 8. Non-Inertial Reference Frames
Abstract
It is often advantageous to describe the motion of a point P not in reference to a fixed coordinate system (x, y, z) but in reference to a moving system (ξ, η, ζ).
Dietmar Gross, Wolfgang Ehlers, Peter Wriggers, Jörg Schröder, Ralf Müller
Chapter 9. Principles of Mechanics
Abstract
It is often advantageous to determine the equations of motion not by using Newton’s axioms (principles of linear and angular momentum) but by using equivalent laws which are called Principles of Mechanics.
Dietmar Gross, Wolfgang Ehlers, Peter Wriggers, Jörg Schröder, Ralf Müller
Chapter 10. Hydrodynamics
Abstract
The velocity field v(x(t), t) describes the motion of a fluid. The vector x assignes to each location in the fluid a velocity v at time t. The velocity field is stationary for v /∂t = 0, otherwise instationary.
Dietmar Gross, Wolfgang Ehlers, Peter Wriggers, Jörg Schröder, Ralf Müller
