Abstract
Although some infrared-transmitting materials are found in nature, all practical bulk materials for windows and domes are synthetic. This chapter outlines the principal methods of fabrication and should familiarize you with some terminology of ceramics. Our discussion should give you an idea of how some of the properties of infrared materials can be modified through the fabrication process.
