Abstract
To achieve scale and impact in the circular economy, companies must think in terms of ecosystems: How they interact up and down their entire value chains with customers, suppliers, communities, and partners. Through a holistic, systems-wide mindset, executives can proactively build a strong foundation that fosters collaboration for scaling circular initiatives, leveraging unique capabilities, and supporting investments in the circular economy. This requires a focus on four key areas: sharing, collaboration, investment, and policy. Collaboration with governments can lead to policies that encourage circularity, especially if companies are one step ahead and assume the reins in that effort. Supporting and scaling initiatives outside the organization can positively impact internal operations in terms of revenue generation, cost reduction, risk reduction, and brand enhancement. Digital platforms can enhance connections among companies and industries, and the co-creation of solutions to overcome challenges.
