The overall availability assessment of a generating unit involves an appreciation of the forced outage parameters for the unit and its maintenance reqirements.This paper introduces an algorithm for performing maintenance scheduling of generation systems in terms of levelizing the system risk throughout the year. The moment-cumulant method is used in developing the technique of this paper. The paper investigates the effects of the system forecast peak load and forced outage rate of a generating unit on the maintenance schedule of the generation system. Applications to the standard IEEE Reliability Test System (RTS) have been used to illustrate these studies.
