Cadillac Introduces Lyriq All-Electric SUV

Cadillac has introduced the Lyriq show car, which will enter series production in 2021. This all-electric SUV is based on the modular EV platform with Ultium battery system from General Motors. 

A striking, closed radiator grille with integrated lamps as part of the choreographed lighting design dominates the front aspect of the Cadillac Lyriq. At the rear, slim-line LEDs form a split tail light design. A 33-inch LED display in the interior combines the instrument-cluster and infotainment functions. An augmented reality-enhanced, dual-plane head-up display shows information such as speed or direction in the foreground and transparent navigation signals in the background, for example. 

Other interior details include backlit loudspeaker grilles and curved screens with hidden storage spaces. Now employing even more microphones, the active noise cancellation system suppresses unwanted noise whilst optimising sounds the vehicle occupants prefer to hear. The Lyriq will come fitted with the latest version of the Super Cruise driver-assist system.

This SUV is propelled by rear-mounted electric motors powering the rear wheels. An optional all-wheel-drive version with additional, front-mounted electric machine will be available. The electric SUV draws its power from a General Motors Ultium 100 kilowatt-hour battery system, which utilises a nickel-cobalt-manganese-aluminium (NCMA) material, as well as aluminium in the cathode, in order to reduce the need for rare earths such as cobalt. The battery modules accommodate the pouch cells and the battery electronics. When connected to a DC rapid charger, the Lyriq can be charged at more than 150 kilowatts. The stated range is around 480 kilometres.
