Root canal length is often determined by measuring the electrical impedance of the root canal during the therapy. For impedance simulation in this paper a 3D FEM model has been developed. In opposition to available models, we have included surrounding tissues with frequency dependant dielectric properties according to the literature data and own measurements. We have also included model of the electrical double layer (EDL) that appears at the outer surface of the metal electrode. An idealized geometry was used to approximate tooth morphology and simulation was performed in the frequency range interesting for the root canal length measuring devices (100 Hz – 1 MHz). Simulated impedances were then compared with measurements performed

on alginate dental impression material. It has been demonstrated that EDL simulation is necessary in order to obtain realistic impedance when using the FEM model of a tooth.
