ZF eMobility Tech Day 2025: ZF aims to reduce weight and costs with its new "Select" electric drive platform. New developments for hybrid drives were also presented.

Mathias Miedreich, Member of the Board of Management for the Electrified Powertrain Technologies division

New development for the globally growing electric mobility market: ZF presented its "Select" electric drive platform at its eMobility Tech Day in Zweibrücken. The highly integrated system comprises several hardware and software functions. "Select" consists of electric motors, inverters, converters, reduction gears, and software, and is designed to enable a wide range of system solutions. This integration offers advantages in terms of installation space, weight, and costs. "With the combination of powerful individual components and attractive functions at system level, electric drives can be configured for a wide range of different applications – and with significantly shorter development times", says Dr. Otmar Scharrer, Senior Vice President R&D, Electrified Powertrain Technology, ZF. The advanced "TherMaS" thermal management system is designed to significantly increase the range of electric vehicles through economical air conditioning.

In addition to battery-electric drives, another platform will also offer combustion engine and hybrid solutions. "Our comprehensive range also includes offering attractive drive solutions for highly efficient combustion engines as well as the entire spectrum of electrified drives and constantly developing them further – across all vehicle classes", said Mathias Miedreich, Member of the Board of Management for the Electrified Powertrain Technologies division. ZF has also presented a further development of its 8-speed automatic transmission: "8HP evo" is designed to offer more power and efficiency for various hybrid platforms. The new electric range extender systems were also presented at the eMobility Tech Day.
