This paper describes interactive computer programmes, implentmented on a 64K Tecktronix 4052 microcomputer. Their purpose is to deskill and speed up die design and manufacture procedures for the production of round forgings. Either a machined or forged part can be chosen as the starting shape, the design sequences, supported by built-in rules and interactive commands, will transform the input shapes into die cavities; both finishing and mould impressions. Required forging data such as gross volume, bar size and load or energy are calculated. Dimensioned drawings and NC tapes for die cutting are also produced through peripheral devices.
