A CAD Model Retrieval System Based on Design Intent

Abstract

With the 3D modeling technology increasingly mature, the 3D model data grows exponentially every year. The huge product data bring great challenge to the reuse of existing product design. It is the key for reuse model to capture the design intents of 3D models. Based on the 3D model data reuse, this paper proposes a CAD model retrieval system based on design intent. Firstly, the development status and existing problems of 3D model retrieval technology are introduced. Secondly, the framework of 3D model retrieval system is constructed and the module function of the retrieval system is analyzed. Then, the ontology semantic tree model is established based on the design knowledge in process of product design, analysis and manufacturing and a retrieval algorithm based on the ontology about the CAD model is designed. Finally, a comparative experiment between semantic retrieval and keyword retrieval is designed to verify the effectiveness of the semantic retrieval method.
