Abstract

The chapter delves into the complex dynamics of free-falling bulk materials, focusing on the air entrainment phenomenon that occurs during particle streams. It introduces a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model using the Dense Discrete Phase Model (DDPM) in Ansys Fluent to predict the amount of air entrained. The model is validated through comparisons with experimental data and other numerical simulations, highlighting the influence of particle size, density, and drop height on air velocity and entrainment. The study concludes with the model's efficiency and the importance of practical case studies for accurate results, making it a valuable resource for understanding and predicting airflow in granular material flows.
