Abstract

The article delves into the complex 'floor leak case' of smoke filling in enclosures, focusing on the time it takes for smoke to reach the floor and the descent history of the smoke layer. It introduces a two-zone model to analyze the problem, considering both hot gas expansion and plume entrainment. The authors derive closed-form solutions using asymptotic analysis, providing a universal solution that approximates the smoke filling time and descent history across various scenarios. The solutions are validated through numerical calculations, offering valuable insights for fire risk evaluation and safety design in buildings.
