Abstract

The article offers a comprehensive review of single DC source multilevel inverters (SDCS-MIs) for renewable energy applications. It classifies SDCS-MIs into isolated and non-isolated types, discussing their topologies, advantages, and limitations. The paper highlights the transformer-less SDCS-MIs (TL-SDCMILs) due to their low cost and high reliability, making them popular in renewable energy applications. It also delves into capacitor voltage balancing strategies and output modulation strategies, essential for ensuring high power quality. The article concludes with future research trends, emphasizing the need for modular structures and advanced semiconductor technologies to improve output power quality and reduce costs.
