Abstract

A concept of structural carbide design of steels at the microlevel is suggested. It is shown that it is possible to control the structural state of the carbide phase in aging after heat refining and thermomechanical treatment of a steel in order to improve its cold resistance. Controlled coagulation of carbides is shown to be an effective means for improving the strength and ductility of structural steels.
