Abstract
In industrial quality inspection data acquisition and processing is often a crucial step. A huge amount of data gathered from various sensors and different modalities must be transferred, processed, stored, retrieved, analysed, and visualized, while speed is another critical issue. Further aim is to minimize the expertise needed by the user to control the inspection process. To satisfy all of these requirements hardware and software issues have to be taken simultaneously into account. In this paper we present a prototype which effectively realizes such a system. To ensure flexibility and improve stability we establish no direct connection between the different system software modules, they communicate via a relational database management system. For computationally intensive tasks GPU nodes are used. We present design and implementation details, and report also an industrial case study.
