Abstract

The chapter introduces a novel approach to systematically capture and manage Third Mission activities in Higher Education Institutions, focusing on a case study at a German University of Applied Sciences. It defines Third Mission activities as those that shape the non-academic environment, consume institutional resources, and align with higher education core activities. The case study involved interviews with university members to identify and classify Third Mission activities, revealing insights into their aims, inputs, and outputs. The findings demonstrate the feasibility of structuring these activities to enhance goal-oriented management and evaluation, highlighting the importance of resource consumption and strategic alignment.
