Abstract

The article presents a DEM-based approach to design rock-socketed piles, considering socket roughness, which significantly affects load capacity and stiffness. The study employs 3D DEM models calibrated using 2D simulations, demonstrating the adequacy of this approach. A novel factor for predicting side shear resistance is proposed, incorporating socket roughness and uniaxial compressive strength. The research highlights the importance of socket roughness in pile design and the efficiency of DEM simulations in understanding pile behavior.
