Abstract

The article introduces a four-stage strategy for solving AC transmission expansion planning (ACTEP) problems, focusing on minimizing power loss and reactive power planning costs. The strategy involves using differential evolution and teaching–learning-based optimization (DE-TLBO) algorithms to address the complexities of the ACTEP problem. The study highlights the integration of thyristor-controlled series compensators (TCSC) to enhance system stability and reliability. Case studies on the Graver 6 bus, IEEE 24 bus, and modified IEEE 118 bus systems demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in reducing power loss and RPP costs compared to other algorithms. The results show that the DE-TLBO algorithm outperforms existing methods in terms of solution quality and computational efficiency.
