Abstract

The article discusses the significance of barley as a key cereal crop due to its nutritional value and economic importance. It highlights the critical impact of water scarcity on crop yield and the need for developing drought-tolerant varieties. The study introduces a framework that combines yield-based indices and multi-index selection models to identify high-yielding and drought-tolerant barley genotypes. The use of the GGE biplot and AMMI analysis provides a robust approach to understanding genotype-by-environment interactions, enabling breeders to select superior genotypes for specific agro-climatic areas. The research, conducted in drought-prone regions of Iran, demonstrates the effectiveness of these models in enhancing breeding programs and improving crop resilience to drought conditions.
