Abstract

The chapter delves into the application of Serious Games (SG) to simulate and enhance the configuration of a sustainable biobased biodegradable plastics packaging (bio-packaging) supply chain. It introduces the SIMBIO Game, a case study developed as part of the Social Innovation Management for Bioplastics research project, which aims to facilitate the development of compostable products and improve the bio-packaging supply chain. The game involves stakeholders from various sectors, including companies, public institutions, and academia, to collaboratively design sustainable supply chain configurations. The analysis of the game reveals both similarities and differences in the approaches taken by different groups, highlighting the importance of implementing downstream processes and closed-loop business models. Additionally, the chapter discusses the implications of crisis scenarios, such as prolonged pandemics, climate change, and economic crises, on the development of sustainable supply chains. The findings provide valuable insights for businesses seeking to transform their supply chains and adopt sustainable practices.
