Abstract

This chapter presents a detailed framework for effectively analyzing Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) profiles in bridge condition assessment. The text begins with a review of various GPR data interpretation techniques, focusing on the challenges and advancements in detecting subsurface defects. It then introduces a comprehensive framework that includes data collection, pre-processing raw data, user-assisted input for optimal cluster determination, automated detection of hyperbolic regions, and manual assignment of anomalies. The chapter also discusses the use of entropy values and K-means clustering for condition mapping, providing a reliable estimate of bridge element conditions. The framework is designed to be open-ended, allowing for future enhancements and improvements. The chapter concludes with the significance of incorporating this process to assist bridge inspectors in generating accurate condition maps that are closer to the ground truth.
