Abstract

This chapter explores the application of a genetic algorithm to solve multi-objective, multi-mode resource-constrained project scheduling problems under uncertainty. The study focuses on optimizing project duration, cost, and resource utilization in construction projects. By integrating fuzzy set theory with a genetic algorithm, the proposed model addresses uncertainty in activity durations and costs, providing a more flexible and realistic framework for project scheduling. The research demonstrates the effectiveness of this approach through a case study of a construction project in Babil Governorate, Iraq. The results show a significant reduction in project duration and cost, as well as improved resource utilization compared to traditional methods like the Critical Path Method (CPM). The chapter also discusses the development of modules for uncertainty modeling, project scheduling, cost calculations, and optimization methods. The findings highlight the potential of genetic algorithms in enhancing project efficiency and minimizing resource and time wastage in dynamic and uncertain conditions.
