Abstract

The article introduces a high-performance and energy-efficient ternary multiplier (TMUL) utilizing carbon nanotube field-effect transistors (CNTFETs). It addresses the limitations of complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor (CMOS) technology in IoT applications, which require long battery lifetimes and energy efficiency. The proposed TMUL leverages CNTFETs for their superior performance and energy efficiency, and multiple-valued logic (MVL) circuits to reduce interconnect complexity and power consumption. The design employs only two unary operators, negative ternary inverter (NTI) and positive ternary inverter (PTI), and the dual- V DD technique to minimize power dissipation. Simulation results demonstrate significant improvements in delay, power consumption, and power-delay-product (PDP) compared to existing TMUL designs. The article also discusses the impact of process variations on the performance of the proposed TMUL, showing its robustness and superiority in IoT applications.
