Abstract

The chapter discusses the increasing problem of microplastic pollution in aquatic environments and the challenges in managing this issue. It introduces a machine-learning model developed using data from a numerical three-dimensional Particle Tracking Model (CaMPSim-3D) to predict microplastic source-receptor relationships. The model was applied to the Saint John River estuary, demonstrating its ability to predict accumulation zones for different microplastic scenarios. The study highlights the potential of machine learning in environmental research, offering a powerful tool for informed decision-making in cleanup efforts and policy development.
