Abstract

The chapter discusses the advancements in gesture recognition using smartwatches and the prevalent issue of false positives. It introduces a method that incorporates eye tracking data to distinguish between intentional and unintentional gestures, thereby enhancing the accuracy of gesture recognition systems. The method was validated through a preliminary experiment that investigated the characteristics of eye tracking data during intentional gestures. The proposed approach uses the SPRING waveform matching algorithm to detect gesture segments and sets a threshold based on the standard deviation of gaze features to eliminate false positives. The effectiveness of the method was evaluated through an experiment that demonstrated significant reductions in false positives, particularly in activities involving significant body movement. The chapter also discusses the limitations and future directions of the proposed method, highlighting the need for more robust and adaptable systems.
