Abstract

The chapter introduces a method for estimating the force applied to the forearm using PPG sensors attached to the fingertip. Unlike conventional methods that require wrapping materials around the arm, this approach offers a more comfortable and less restrictive solution. The method involves detecting local maximum values in pulse waves and calculating their change rates to estimate pressure. Preliminary experiments and evaluations demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, with promising results in terms of the coefficient of determination and Mean Absolute Error (MAE). The chapter also discusses the construction of a regression model using training data and the potential applications of the technique in various fields, including healthcare and wearable technology.
