Abstract

The article delves into the dynamics of heat exchange and control in the cooling of hot blast furnace slag, focusing on dry granulation processes. Unlike wet granulation, dry granulation allows for the utilization of sensible heat from liquid slag, making it more environmentally friendly and efficient. The study presents a mathematical model that describes the heat balance and temperature field in a moving dense layer of slag exposed to a cross-flow of cold air. This model is essential for designing heat exchangers and controlling the cooling process, ensuring the production of high-quality, dry granulated slag. The model is validated through a computational example, demonstrating its practical applicability. Additionally, the article outlines the development of an automatic control system (ACS) using the model, highlighting the potential for real-time temperature control and optimization of the cooling process. The ACS is designed to maintain a constant slag temperature at the heat exchanger outlet, adjusting the flow rate of cooling air based on ambient temperature variations. The article concludes with a discussion on the model's enhancement and its potential for operational analysis and process control in the industry.
