Abstract

The article introduces a novel approach to calculating the minimum reflux condition during multicomponent mixture fractionation in distillation columns. Traditional methods involve calculating extreme conditions and transitioning to normal operating conditions. The proposed equations significantly simplify the determination of minimum reflux and vapor ratios, as well as the compositions of fractionation products. These equations are compared to the commonly used Underwood method and other approaches like the limit concentration areas (LCA) method. The new method eliminates the need for sequential calculations of previous LCAs, making it more efficient and practical for both industrial applications and educational purposes in chemical engineering.
