Abstract

The article introduces a new method for assessing steel resistance to local carbon dioxide corrosion in gas facilities, focusing on the impact of variable wetting conditions. The method involves the use of a stand unit that simulates alternating wetting by rotating steel samples through a liquid phase, mimicking the conditions inside a gas pipeline. The study highlights the importance of microstructure and nonmetallic inclusions in steel on corrosion resistance and demonstrates how variable wetting conditions can lead to the formation of local defects. The results show that the new method complements existing top-of-line corrosion tests and provides a more comprehensive assessment of corrosion risk in gas pipelines. The article presents experimental results and discusses the implications for corrosion protection measures, making it a valuable resource for professionals in the field.
