A New TRIZ-Based Approach to Design an Innovative Production System by Integrating Lean Tools and Functionalities

Abstract

The chapter introduces a new approach to designing production systems by integrating Lean tools and TRIZ methodologies from the initial design phase. It emphasizes the importance of a proactive approach to prevent defects and waste, rather than reacting to them after they occur. The Lean Parameter Integration Matrix (LPIM) is presented as a methodology to identify and resolve contradictions that may arise from the integration of various Lean tools. The LPIM aims to extract both technical and physical contradictions and provide generalized solutions, ensuring a more robust integration of Lean functionalities. The methodology is illustrated with an application example using the SMED tool, demonstrating how the LPIM can be applied to resolve specific contradictions. The chapter concludes by highlighting the potential of the LPIM to shift the focus from reactive to preventive Lean integration, ultimately improving overall system performance.
