Abstract

The chapter introduces a novel current control scheme for three-phase three-level grid-tied neutral point clamped (NPC) inverters, which are crucial for converting renewable energy sources into usable AC power. Unlike conventional space vector modulation (SVM) techniques, the proposed scheme does not rely on PI controllers or phase-locked loops, significantly reducing computational complexity. The NPC inverter topology is highlighted for its advantages in reducing voltage stress and harmonic distortion. The proposed control technique simplifies the switching patterns and improves the overall performance of the inverter. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the new scheme, showing reduced total harmonic distortion (THD) and accurate tracking of reference grid currents. This chapter is particularly valuable for engineers and researchers seeking to optimize power conversion systems for renewable energy applications.
