Abstract

This chapter introduces a novel hybrid scheduling approach that combines K-Means Clustering (KMC) with the Shortest Job First (SJF) algorithm to enhance cloud system performance. The study investigates the impact of different clustering levels on key performance parameters, including average network latency, average energy consumption, average memory usage, and average throughput. Through extensive experiments using the CloudSim simulator and real-time data from Google, the authors demonstrate that the hybrid SJF-KMC approach outperforms the traditional SJF algorithm in various scenarios. The results indicate that the optimal performance is achieved with either minimal or high clustering levels, depending on the specific performance parameter. The chapter also provides practical recommendations for implementing the hybrid approach in different phases of task computation, from task submission to throughput calculations. The study concludes that clustering mechanisms can significantly improve cloud system performance, paving the way for future research in this area.
