Abstract

The article delves into the critical need for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technologies to optimize the exploitation of indigenous reservoirs, addressing the challenges posed by the decreasing viscosity of polyacrylamide (PAM) during oil recovery operations. The study introduces a novel approach using microencapsulation technology to encapsulate PAM, creating a protective shield against shear-induced degradation and surface adsorption. This innovation ensures the stability and delayed release of PAM, significantly improving crude oil recovery efficiency. The research highlights the synthesis of polyurethane microcapsules using D-sorbitol as a chain extender, a renewable and non-toxic alternative to traditional petroleum-based diols and diamines. The experimental results demonstrate the superior shear resistance and heat resistance of the microcapsules, attributed to the high cross-linking density and rigidity introduced by D-sorbitol. The article provides a comprehensive analysis of the microcapsules' morphology, particle size distribution, delayed thickening properties, and rheological behavior, offering a detailed understanding of their potential applications in EOR and beyond. The findings suggest that this novel microcapsule technology could revolutionize oil recovery processes, providing a more efficient and environmentally friendly solution.
