Abstract

The article introduces a novel semi-supervised power transformer defect monitoring technique that addresses the challenges of imbalanced partial discharge (PD) signals and noisy data. By employing a variational autoencoder (VAE) for data pre-processing and a bidirectional long short-term memory (Bi-LSTM) network for signal de-noising, the proposed method effectively balances the dataset and removes external interferences. The core of the technique is the Teacher-Student Learning with Pseudo-Labels (TDRUPL) model, which leverages multi-branch classification to improve fault recognition accuracy. The method is validated through several case studies and comparative analyses, showcasing its superior performance in handling imbalanced and noisy datasets. The article concludes by highlighting the practical implications of the proposed method for enhancing the maintenance and monitoring of power transformers.
