Abstract

The chapter introduces a phase-field model for simulating structural damage in Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), a semi-crystalline polymer. It discusses the complexities of polymer deformation and the use of rheological models to describe their response. The model is based on continuum mechanics and thermodynamics, incorporating elasto-viscoplastic behavior and damage evolution. A genetic algorithm is employed to fit material parameters, ensuring the model's accuracy. The results show excellent agreement with experimental data, capturing the abrupt fracture behavior of PTFE.
