Abstract

The chapter introduces a phase-field model for simulating structural damage in Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), a semi-crystalline polymer. It discusses the complexities of polymer deformation and the use of rheological models to describe their response. The model is based on continuum mechanics and thermodynamics, incorporating elasto-viscoplastic behavior and damage evolution. A genetic algorithm is employed to fit material parameters, ensuring the model's accuracy. The results show excellent agreement with experimental data, capturing the abrupt fracture behavior of PTFE. This work provides valuable insights into the fracture behavior of PTFE and other polymeric materials, offering a robust tool for further research and industrial applications.
