Abstract

The chapter delves into the critical issue of future food security, examining historical crop production trends and proposing a supply chain management approach to ensure sustainable crop production. By analyzing data from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, the study identifies the increasing demand for crops due to population growth and the need for effective planning to balance supply and demand. The proposed crop production planning and control process, modeled after the sales and operations planning (S&OP) process in supply chain management, aims to prevent overproduction or underproduction, stabilize crop prices, and enhance international collaboration in agricultural trades. The study concludes with a call for an effective global crop supply chain and highlights the need for further research to validate the proposed planning process.
