Abstract

The article explores the thermo-mechanical design considerations for energy piles, highlighting the importance of accounting for temperature variations in their performance. It introduces a novel design method that combines pressuremeter test results with numerical simulations to evaluate the impact of thermal effects on pile behavior. The study demonstrates how temperature variations influence the mechanical properties of soil, affecting the mobilized base resistance, shaft friction, and overall bearing capacity of energy piles. By presenting a case study, the article illustrates the practical application of this method, showing how it can be used to optimize the design of energy piles in clay soil. The research underscores the necessity of considering thermal effects in energy pile design, as they significantly impact the pile's performance and reliability.
