Abstract

The chapter delves into the assessment of driver distractions using glance-based measures, focusing on the driver's field of view and head and eye movements. Conducted at the Borongaj Science Campus in Zagreb, the study involved three male student drivers performing various tasks while driving. The research aimed to master remote-sensing technologies and improve the design for assessing cabin distractions. The drivers' activities included setting up navigation, mobile phone conversations, cognitive tasks, complex tasks, smoking, and drinking. The results indicated that certain tasks, such as setting up navigation, significantly reduced the percentage of gaze on the road center, highlighting the dangerous nature of these distractions. The study concluded that the driver's glance behavior method can detect predominantly visual distractions and suggested future research on a larger scale with more diverse participants.
