Chapter 1. Mathematical Preliminaries
Farzin AsadiAbstractMathematics is fundamental to electric circuit analysis. It provides the tools to quantify circuit behavior, from basic relationships like Ohm’s Law to more complex concepts involving differential equations and complex numbers. This chapter reviews the essential mathematical methods needed for successful circuit analysis, preparing you for the more advanced techniques covered later in this book. -
Chapter 2. Electric Circuit Components
Farzin AsadiAbstractThis chapter provides an introduction to the fundamental circuit components. We begin by introducing the fundamental components—resistors, capacitors, inductors, and sources—and examining their current–voltage (I-V) relationships. These relationships are key to solving circuit analysis problems. -
Chapter 3. Essential Circuit Analysis Techniques (I)
Farzin AsadiAbstractThis chapter delves into the fundamental techniques of circuit analysis, providing the tools necessary to systematically solve for unknown currents and voltages in electrical networks. We begin by exploring Kirchhoff’s Voltage Law (KVL) and Kirchhoff’s Current Law (KCL), two cornerstone principles that govern the behavior of current and voltage in any circuit. Building upon these foundational laws, we introduce two powerful methods: Nodal analysis and Mesh analysis. Nodal analysis, based on KCL, provides a systematic approach for determining node voltages, while mesh analysis, based on KVL, offers a complementary method for solving for loop currents. These techniques, when applied strategically, greatly simplify the analysis of complex circuits, enabling engineers to understand and predict the behavior of electrical systems. Mastery of KVL, KCL, and nodal/mesh analysis is essential is essential for solving circuit problems. -
Chapter 4. Essential Circuit Analysis Techniques (II)
Farzin AsadiAbstractDependent sources, also known as controlled sources, are circuit elements whose values are contingent upon voltages or currents present at other locations within the circuit. This behavior distinguishes them from independent sources, which provide fixed voltage or current levels. The present chapter addresses the analysis of circuits incorporating dependent sources. -
Chapter 5. Handy Circuit Analysis Techniques
Farzin AsadiAbstractThis chapter introduces a set of powerful circuit analysis techniques designed to make solving circuit problems easier and more efficient. Building on fundamental concepts like Kirchhoff’s Voltage and Current Laws (KVL and KCL) and basic circuit principles, we’ll explore methods that simplify even the most complex circuits. Techniques such as superposition, source transformations, and Thévenin and Norton equivalents provide intuitive shortcuts for determining voltage, current, and power. Mastering these tools will not only sharpen your problem-solving skills but also give you deeper insight into circuit behavior, allowing you to analyze circuits with confidence and efficiency. -
Chapter 6. Thévenin Equivalent Circuit in the Presence of Dependent Sources
Farzin AsadiAbstractThe previous chapter covered Thévenin equivalent circuits for networks containing independent sources. This chapter extends that analysis to circuits with dependent sources, providing the essential tools and strategies for determining their Thévenin equivalents. -
Chapter 7. Essential MATLAB® Commands for Electric Circuit Analysis
Farzin AsadiAbstractThis chapter presents a focused introduction to the essential MATLAB® commands relevant to the analysis of electric circuits. The aim is to equip the reader with the foundational knowledge necessary to effectively utilize MATLAB in solving circuit-related problems. -
