Abstract

The chapter delves into the complexities of cybersecurity in developing nations, emphasizing the need for a multifaceted strategy to address scarce resources and immature technological ecosystems. It discusses the rising costs of cybercrime and the varying threat landscapes across different regions. The study introduces a profile-based approach to assess cybersecurity readiness, focusing on Brazil, Ghana, Japan, and South Africa. This method involves evaluating national laws, initiatives, and cybersecurity culture to provide a comprehensive overview of each country's cybersecurity posture. The chapter also compares existing cybersecurity maturity models and highlights the gaps that the proposed profiling approach aims to address. By offering a detailed analysis of cybersecurity readiness levels, the chapter lays the groundwork for further research and the development of a cybersecurity readiness tool.
