Abstract

The article delves into the application of variational quantum algorithms (VQAs) for solving nonlinear optimal control problems, a class of problems crucial in various fields such as engineering, natural sciences, finance, and economics. It addresses the limitations of classical methods in handling nonlinear dynamics and computational inefficiencies, proposing a quantum mechanical approach that frames these problems as quantum mechanical eigenvalue problems. The text provides a comprehensive overview of Dirac's canonical quantization, including the use of Dirac brackets for constrained Hamiltonian systems, and extends this framework to optimal control problems. It introduces a novel perspective on the Dirac bracket formulation and explores the structural properties of Dirac brackets in multidimensional constrained optimization problems. The article also discusses the integration of a modified variational quantum algorithm tailored to handle non-Hermitian Hamiltonian matrices, demonstrating its effectiveness through computational examples. The proposed quantum approach offers a promising alternative to classical methods, particularly for high-dimensional optimization challenges, and showcases the potential of quantum computing in solving complex control problems.
