Abstract

The article discusses the challenges and solutions for protecting six-phase transmission lines against a variety of faults. It highlights the increased power transfer capability and advantages of six-phase systems over traditional three-phase systems. The main focus is on the development of a random forest-based protection scheme that utilizes discrete wavelet transform to detect, classify, and locate faults, including non-typical shunt faults like evolving and cross-country faults. The scheme is validated through extensive simulations and real-time testing, demonstrating its effectiveness and practical applicability in enhancing the reliability and efficiency of power transmission systems.
