Abstract

The article addresses the challenge of accurately identifying faults in power systems, particularly single-phase ground faults, which are frequently caused by transition resistance. Traditional distance protection methods are often affected by this resistance, leading to misoperations and system instability. The proposed scheme, based on compensated cosine volume, uses local measurements of voltage and current to identify faults. The authors analyze the impact of transition resistance on voltage cosine volume and develop a compensation method to ensure accurate fault identification. The scheme is validated through simulations, demonstrating its effectiveness in various scenarios, including different fault locations, system operating conditions, and noise environments. The proposed method shows superior performance compared to existing schemes, highlighting its potential for practical application in power system protection.
