Abstract

The chapter delves into the pressing need for renewable energy sources, highlighting the vast potential of wave energy. It critically examines the limitations of traditional electromagnetic generators, which struggle with the low frequency and random nature of waves. The core innovation presented is an accelerator-based triboelectric nanogenerator (A-TENG), a lightweight and cost-effective device designed to overcome these challenges. The A-TENG operates on the contact-separation mode, utilizing flexible materials to generate electricity from wave motion. Initial experiments demonstrate promising results, with a surface charge density of 1 nC/cm², and the potential for significant output improvement through scaling and array integration. The chapter explores various applications, from powering coastal infrastructure to enabling sustainable underwater monitoring. It also addresses the environmental benefits and scalability of the A-TENG, making a strong case for its potential to revolutionize wave energy harvesting.
