Abstract

The study focuses on achieving yield symmetry in an extruded Mg-Zn-Y alloy by improving the dispersion of the quasicrystalline i-phase. The authors employ a two-step extrusion process to uniformly distribute the i-phase, resulting in a well-recrystallized microstructure and enhanced mechanical properties. The work highlights the importance of particle size, distribution, and extrusion conditions in controlling grain size, texture, and mechanical behavior. The novel process demonstrates the potential to achieve yield symmetry even at grain sizes greater than 1 μm, offering insights into the optimization of magnesium alloys for structural applications.
