Abstract

The chapter 'Acki Nacki: A Probabilistic Proof-of-Stake Consensus Protocol with Fast Finality and Parallelisation' introduces a novel blockchain protocol designed to overcome the performance limitations of existing consensus mechanisms. It emphasizes the need for fast transaction execution throughput and time to finality to achieve mass adoption. The Acki Nacki protocol allows participants to perform multiple roles in parallel, enabling the creation of numerous simultaneous chains. Key features include a deterministic Block Producer selection algorithm, a unique Block Keeper and Verifier system, and a Fork Choice Rule for handling conflicting blocks. The protocol's security assumptions are dynamically adjustable, ensuring high adaptability to network parameters while maintaining robust safety guarantees. Performance analysis shows that Acki Nacki can achieve up to 250,000 transactions per second with less than 1-second finality, and with sharding, it can scale to millions of transactions. The chapter concludes by highlighting the protocol's reduced message complexity and high parallelism, making it a promising solution for scalable and efficient blockchain networks.
