Excerpt

The article introduces an innovative electromechanical actuator module developed by Vitesco Technologies for dedicated hybrid transmissions (DHTs) in compact cars. This module addresses the cost challenges associated with hybrid technology in smaller vehicles, enabling the integration of a hybrid powertrain at the price level of a diesel model. By eliminating the need for a clutch and synchronization elements, the actuator module reduces transmission losses and length, facilitating easier integration. The module uses dog clutches with a special tooth geometry and high-performance controllers to achieve fast and smooth gear shifts in under 150 ms. This design enhances the overall efficiency of the powertrain, making hybrid technology more affordable and practical for compact vehicles. The actuator module has been successfully implemented in Renault's E-TECH platform for hybrid versions of the Clio, Captur, and Megane, demonstrating its real-world applicability and potential impact on the automotive industry.
