Abstract

This chapter delves into the adsorption of malachite green (MG) dye from wastewater using activated carbon derived from rice husks. The study investigates the impact of various factors such as contact time, initial dye concentration, pH levels, and temperature on the adsorption process. It was found that the optimal pH for adsorption is 7.0, and the maximum adsorption capacity reached 250 mg/g. The research also explores the kinetics and thermodynamics of the adsorption process, applying models like Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin to understand the adsorption behavior. The results indicate that the adsorption process is exothermic and follows a pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Additionally, the study highlights the influence of adsorbent dose and temperature on the removal efficiency of MG. The findings suggest that rice husk activated carbon is a promising adsorbent for the removal of cationic dyes from wastewater, offering a sustainable and effective solution for water treatment.
