Abstract

The chapter delves into the adsorption of micropollutants, such as pharmaceutical compounds and heavy metals, using waste-based biochar. It discusses the challenges posed by these pollutants in aquatic environments and the limitations of existing water treatment methods. The study focuses on the preparation and testing of biochar made from waste materials like biosolids and woodchips, showing its superior adsorption capacity compared to conventional activated carbon. The research includes designing and optimizing a filtration column for maximum adsorption, with detailed experiments and analysis of key parameters such as bed capacity, breakthrough time, and exhaustion time. The results highlight the effectiveness of biochar in removing various micro and macro pollutants, making it a promising sustainable solution for wastewater treatment.
