Abstract

The chapter delves into the significant role of microalgae in treating textile wastewater, focusing on their ability to remove dyes and other pollutants through biosorption, bioaccumulation, and biodegradation. It explores the use of bioflocculants to enhance the efficiency of this process, as well as the potential for genetic engineering to improve microalgae strains. The text also discusses the production of valuable byproducts such as biogas and biodiesel, and the challenges and future directions in scaling up these technologies for industrial applications. Additionally, it highlights the use of algae-based nanoformulations for wastewater remediation, including the synthesis and application of nanoparticles for enhanced pollutant degradation. The chapter concludes with a discussion on the opportunities and challenges of integrating microalgae into textile wastewater treatment, emphasizing the need for further research and development in this promising field.
